Venetsanos Winery: The Revival of the VEN SAN Label

Venetsanos Winery has just introduced a new and distinctive label, VEN SAN 2022. This white dry wine, PDO Santorini, brings back one of the winery’s historic labels, first launched in the 1970s, now reborn with a modern twist and refined quality.

The grapes come from the estate vineyard “Agios Nikitas” in Megalochori. It’s a carefully crafted blend, made up of 80% Assyrtiko and 20% Athiri, Aidani, Katsano, and Platani. The winemaking follows the classic white method. The grapes are chilled for 24 hours before pressing, then gently extracted in a pneumatic press and fermented at low, controlled temperatures. The wine matures for 12 months, with 35% aged in oak barrels, giving it extra depth and aroma.

On the palate, VEN SAN 2022 offers a harmonious balance of flavors including ripe pear, chamomile, dried nuts, oak, bitter orange, grapefruit, and toasted walnut. It pairs beautifully with dishes like creamy carbonara, mushroom risotto, pork knuckle, or baked salmon in parchment. Best served chilled at 10°C.

The bottle is Burgundy-style but lighter than the ones usually used by the winery, a conscious move toward reducing its carbon footprint.

Venetsanos is also exploring the possibility of releasing a rosé or even a red version in the future, depending on the outcome of ongoing experiments and grape quality.

Only 3,500 bottles of VEN SAN 2022 have been produced, making this a truly limited release.

VEN SAN 2022 is now available in our shop, ready to enjoy!
