Just a short boat ride from Santorini, you’ll find yourself on Thirassia, an island that preserves its traditional character and volcanic charm. Nestled in the village of Potamos lies the Mikra Thira Winery – a pioneering project that highlights the island’s unique vineyard, the first and only winery on Thirassia.
Visionaries Vangelis Gerovassiliou, Vassilis Tsaktsarlis, and Ioanna Vamvakouri dreamed of a winery that seamlessly blends with the Cycladic landscape and culture. Choosing Thirassia – a secluded and nearly untouched island—was no coincidence; it was both a challenge and an inspiration to create a space that bridges the old with the new.
The winery is surrounded by privately owned organic vineyards on Thirassia, with cultivation also extending to selected vineyards on Santorini. Assyrtiko, the region’s iconic grape variety, takes center stage, accompanied by local varieties such as Aidani, Athiri, Mavrotragano, and Mandilaria. The traditional kouloura (basket) technique protects the grapes from the sun and wind.
Mikra Thira offers a unique tour and tasting experience, where the wine itself narrates the story of the place.
