Behind the Scenes: A Legacy of Protection
The International Committee awarded 4,378 coasts, 747 marinas and 158 tourist boats worldwide this year. With 624 awarded coasts, 17 marinas and 17 tourist boats, Greece remains in 2nd place worldwide among 51 countries. It is worth noting that in Greece there is a steady upward trend with an increase in the number of awarded points every year, with the awards once again exceeding 600, while in the total of 51 countries participating in the Program, Greece holds 14% of the awarded coasts internationally.
The Blue Flag program is managed by the Foundation for Environmental Education (FEE) in Denmark and is represented in Greece by the Hellenic Society for the Protection of Nature (EEPF).
This year is particularly special as the EEPF celebrates 75 years of protecting the Greek landscape. Their tireless work ensures that when you visit Santorini, you are experiencing nature that is respected, managed sustainably, and kept to the highest international standards.
