The 2026 edition introduces an exciting addition to its traditional schedule. On Friday, October 16, 2026, at 17:30, the event kicks off in Kamari with the premiere of the Ancient Thera Run 5K.

The Legendary 2.4km Open Water Swim

On Saturday, October 17, 2026, at 09:30, swimmers will face one of the world’s most unique open-water courses. Competitors will board vessels provided by the Santorini Boatmen’s Association, which will transport them directly to the volcanic islet inside the caldera.

From this volcanic starting line, participants swim 1.5 miles, or 2.4 kilometers, across the deep, dark waters of the caldera, finishing at the historic Old Port of Fira. To guarantee absolute safety, lifeguard boats will accompany the swimmers, and the use of a safety buoy is mandatory. As a courtesy, the organization provides free round-trip cable car access to the Old Port for all registered swimmers upon showing their proof of entry.
