While Santorini is globally famous for its volcanic sunsets and whitewashed cliffs, those of us who live and breathe this island know that its true heartbeat lies in its cultural heritage. For forty years, one particular event has quietly defined the summer cultural scene, far away from the commercial noise of the beach bars.
The Megaro Gyzi Festival celebrates its 40th anniversary, running from August 3 to August 13, 2026. Hosted inside the stunning 17th-century Megaro Gyzi Cultural Center in Fira, this beloved festival offers four exquisite chamber music performances, completely free to the public, thanks to the continuous support of the Catholic Diocese of Thera.
Under the artistic direction of Konstantinos Grigoriou, this year’s program brings together a masterful selection of Greek and international virtuosos.
Here is the complete itinerary for the four nights of the festival, with all concerts starting at 20:30.

Expect a soaring evening of classical arias and duets filled with dramatic expression.

The Spanish-Greek guitar duo, Susana Prieto and Alexis Mouzourakis, widely known as Duo Melis, takes the stage. As one of the most prominent classical guitar duos on the international scene, they bring a seamless musical synthesis, virtuosic speed, and deep expression to the historic stone courtyard.
Thursday, August 13, 2026 | Quattro Echo
The 40th anniversary season closes with Quattro Echo, a dynamic string quartet committed to showcasing both classical masterpieces and modern compositions. With a special focus on works from the 20th and 21st centuries, this ensemble pushes the boundaries of string performance, offering a fresh, contemporary end to the historic festival.
Because admission is entirely free, if you want to secure a good seat, aim to arrive in Fira by 19:45. It gives you plenty of time to stroll through the quiet back alleys of the Catholic Quarter and find the venue before the crowd gathers.
