While being in Santorini and taking a winery tour to discover the hidden gems of the island, you will find Vassaltis Vineyards, the newest winery in Santorini, in Vourvoulos area, on the road to Oia. Its name was inspired by the black volcanic rock formed by the cooling of the vassaltic lava that covered the island of Santorini.
At first, you will be impressed by the state-of-the-art white building, inspired by a minimalist and modern aesthetic that integrates harmoniously with the surrounding environment. This blend between nature and the vineyard was a priority from the first steps of the project… But let’s take the story from the beginning…
The owners’, Yannis Valambous, passion for wine drew him back to the island of Santorini, where he spent many happy family holidays as a child. In 2010, he decided to leave his finance career in London as a new plan took root in his mind. Yannis sought to breathe new life into the vineyards he inherited from his father, in Santorini.
Looking out across the vines, Yannis saw the potential to create something truly exceptional and unique with the land his father left him. He focused on a single goal – to transform the family vineyards into a thoroughly modern winery and make exquisite wines that showcase the quality of Santorini’s grapes. It took a few years, and when the construction of the new winery finished in April 2016, Yannis was ready to dive into his new venture.
Today, five years later, their efforts are rewarded and their wines are constantly gaining new friends around the world. Discover their creations below!
