“Koufeto” is the most famous traditional spoon sweet in Santorini, which in the old days was served during weddings and engagements.
It is made from honey and almonds to symbolize the young couple’s sweet life and fertility. According to the custom it was served by the mother of the bride on a platter and each guest who tasted it, using a fork, gave his/her wishes to the newlyweds.
However, even today, “koufeto” has a special place in the life of the inhabitants of Santorini and is still offered during various social gatherings, feasts and other celebrations!
Would you like to try it with your coffee or ice cream? Would you like to offer it as a gift to your guests on a special occasion or as a wedding favour for your friends?
