The Cultural Associaton “The Friends of Santorini” presents for the 40th consecutive year the International Music Festival of Santorini to be held under the artistic direction of Athena Capodistria from 7th to 21st of September at the Petros M. Nomikos Conference Centre in Fira, including six concerts of different musical genres.
This year’s festival opens on Friday, 7th September, with the String Orchestra of the Festival of Santorini under the direction of the distinguished conductor Miltos Logiadis and soloists the legendary Hungarian cellist ISTVÁN VÁRDAI and pianist ATHENA CAPODISTRIA. They will perform the following plays:
– J.S.BACH Concerto in f min. for piano and strings
– HAYDN Concerto for cello in C. maj.
– GRIEG Holberg Suite op. 40, NINO ROTA Concerto per archi
On Sunday, 9th September, Hungarian cellist ISTVÁN VÁRDAI and French pianist PASCAL GODART will perform for cello and piano. Particularly they will perform works by SCHUMANN – BEETHOVEN – BRAHMS
Friday, 13th September, will be an evening of Chamber Music. FABRIZIO MELONI clarinet player from Italy, Slovenia cellist MILOŠ MLEJNIK, Greek pianist ATHENA CAPODISTRIA will perform works by BRAHMS – GRANADOS – POULENC – ΝΙΝΟ ROTA – JOSÉ BRAGATO – ASTOR PIAZZOLLA
On Sunday, 16th September, the “VOUGAS – KONTRAFOURIS” QUARTET will fill up Petros Nomikos hall with Jazz Improvisations.
The Quartet is:
– STRATOS VOUGAS tenor saxophone
– GIORGOS KONTRAFOURIS piano
– KIMON KAROUTSOS bass
– YANNIS PAPADOULIS drums
On Tuesday, 18th September a piano recital with FIL LIOTIS and works by MOZART – DEBUSSY – LISZT – ALBENIZ
For the closing concert, on Friday, 21st September, there will be an evening of Operatic Music with:
– CELLIA COSTEA soprano – Romania
– TASSIS CHRISTOYANNIS baritone
– CAROLOS ZOUGANELIS piano
