Pendant with Cycladic Head
The heads of Cycladic figurines, with their strict geometric characteristics and absolute simplicity, are iconic expressions of 3rd millennium BC Cycladic art. Their smooth, abstract faces depict not individual traits, but a timeless, ideal human figure.
The slight upward tilt of the head, common to many figurines, may indicate offering, communication, or contemplation. This silent aspect exudes strength and introspection – a form that seems to see beyond time.
In Aegean and eastern Mediterranean cultures, the human figure is often viewed as a place of soul and mind, a surface where the human and the divine meet.
