Wine Maker’s Notes
With roots on the island of Santorini since 1870, the Koutsogiannopoulos family has built a legacy of winemaking excellence that spans five generations.
Grape Composition: 75% Assyrtiko, 25% Aidani
The story of Vinsanto, the traditional sweet wine of Santorini, is deeply connected to the island’s identity. This wine comes from carefully selected old vineyards cultivated specifically for this style. The grapes are harvested very late, almost 15 days after the main harvest, resulting in extremely low yields. They are then sun-dried for 10 to 12 days. Natural fermentation takes place in stainless steel tanks, followed by 4 years of aging in old French oak barrels.
Tasting Notes:
Medium amber in color with brown highlights. The nose is intense and highly complex, with aromas of dried fruits, caramel, and honeycomb standing out. On the palate, it is rich and sweet in texture, yet balanced by a refreshing acidity that invites another sip. Vinsanto is served, before or after food, with fruit, cheese, nuts, chocolate cake, and is perfect on ice-cream. Best enjoyed at 6-8°C.
